Veterans Cremation & Funeral Benefits
Woodbridge Cremation Center specializes in helping veterans and their spouse receive free interment at a national cemetery, or at a private cemetery in the case of veterans.
WHAT VETERANS CAN RECEIVE
Veterans' funeral benefits encompass a range of services. Cremated remains receive the same dignified burial or inurnment in national cemeteries, complete with the same honors accorded to casketed remains.
A veteran's discharge papers are of paramount importance in establishing eligibility for benefits.
A veteran's funeral benefits include the provision of a gravesite or resting place for either a casket or an urn, opening and closing of the grave, perpetual maintenance of the final resting place, a Government-issued headstone or marker, a burial flag, and the prestigious Presidential Memorial Certificate. These benefits come at no expense to the bereaved family. In addition, certain Veterans may qualify for Burial Allowances.
NATIONAL VS. PRIVATE CEMETERY BENEFITS
A veteran's spouse and dependents may be laid to rest in a national cemetery alongside a veteran. If they pass away before the Veteran, they will be placed in the urn niche or in-ground urn crypt or burial plot that the veteran will be laid to rest in after they die.
Veterans that are interred in a private cemetery may still access government veteran benefits, which include a government-issued headstone, marker, or medallion, a burial flag, and a Presidential Memorial Certificate. However, it's important to note that VA benefits are not available for spouses and dependents laid to rest in a private cemetery.
The responsibility for making funeral and/or cremation arrangements lies with the veteran's family.
ADVANCE PREPARATION
It's important to note that national VA cemeteries to not allow reservations to be made in advance for gravesites. Therefore, it is advisable to have a veteran's wishes provided to their family prior to death.
